On the participation of the delegation of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus in the mourning ceremonies in Vietnam

On July 25-26, 2024, the delegation of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, headed by Deputy Chairman Siarhei Khamenka, visited Vietnam to participate in the mourning ceremonies for Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Comrade Nguyễn Phú Trọng.

On July 26, 2024, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko at the National Funeral Home in Hanoi, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic, Siarhei Khamenka, together with Chairman of the Standing Commission of the Council of the Republic on International Affairs and National Security, Sergei Aleinik, took part in the mourning ceremony, during which he honored the memory of the Vietnamese leader and expressed condolences to his family and friends, as well as to the Vietnamese officials present at the event. On behalf of the Belarusian people, Siarhei Khamenka left a note in the Book of Condolences.

During the meeting with Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Trần Thanh Mẫn, Siarhei Khamenka noted the role and significance of Comrade Nguyễn Phú Trọng in the modern history of Vietnam, his merits and contribution to the development of Belarusian-Vietnamese relations. Trần Thanh Mẫn confirmed the traditionally friendly nature of relations between the two countries and spoke in favor of intensifying the inter-parliamentary dialogue.

As part of the visit, Siarhei Khamenka had a brief conversation with Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, Lê Thành Long. The parties confirmed the focus on further developing cooperation between Belarus and Vietnam in various fields.
